As I looked at Rita, St Paul said to Peter “My god there’s another gone astray”,
And I move over beside her,
Her hair smelt of violets,
Or perhaps it was rose my mistake.
And she said on to me,
“Boy you stick of gin, Perhaps its better you just walk away?”
And I stumbled and fell and wretched up hell, All over her blue velvet shoes.
I was tossed out of a side door, down stairs I clambered,
To a sickening mess on the floor, and sure it all sounds bad,
But when you’ve had the life I’ve had, you call it a lucky escape.
Ill equip though I was, I wondered the land,
For the touch of a fair maidens hand, and it was to my surprise,
That I opened my eyes, and I stood from a wreck on the floor.
It was then that I met her, my true love, my better, She came as an angel to me,
And I moved over to greet her, my sweetheart my saviour,
But she screamed, Hit me and ran.
And alone I still stand, the shadow of a man, the shadow of a man no one knows,
Nor cares to know
